Trust

“Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” KJV

Trust in verse 5 comes from the Hebrew word bä·takh' meaning:

1) to trust, trust in
2) to have confidence, be confident
3) to be bold
4) to be secure

Trust gives confidence and security to the relationship. Without trust there cannot be a meaningful relationship. With trust comes commitment. Think about someone special to you in your life. The relationship you have with them makes you feel secure and gives you confidence. Our relationship with God requires trust. The Bible gives the many advantages when there is trust in God on our part:

Trust in God directs our path: Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Trust in the Lord adds strength in our lives: Isaiah 26:4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH [is] everlasting strength

Trust in God provides for us: Psalms 34:22 The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

Trust in God requires faith. Faith comes by the word of God as we see in Romans 10:17 So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. When you trust someone you know that they will be there for you in your life. But trust is a two way street. We trust God, but can God trust you to obey, follow, and do what is right? “In God We Trust” is a motto we see on our money. Saying I trust in God is easy, but actually trusting in God is where the relationship comes in.

The patriarchs in the Bible all had to trust in God. When God told Abraham to leave his family and home land in Haran and move to Canaan took trust in God. Moses was asked to go into Egypt and give God’s command to the most powerful leader on the earth at the time, Pharaoh. Noah was told by God to build a boat for a flood when there had been no rain upon the earth before. Time and time again God will lead people outside their comfort zones and they have only to trust in God.

Most of the time God will ask us to do perform a task that we consider to be our weakness. God calls us for our weakness not our strengths. We put our trust in our abilities when we look to our strengths. But in what we perceive as our weakness God’s strength is made perfect. This is what God told Paul in 2 Cr. 12:9 - for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Our weakness requires you and me to put our trust in God. We know that we cannot perform the task God ask us to do within ourselves. Therefore we rely upon God. In 2009 we have to build our faith, exercise our faith, and most importantly trust in God.
